DIY Hairmask Recipes to Fight Hair Loss

Fighting Hair Loss
Hair loss is something that can happen to anyone, at any time in their life. It can be due to hormone imbalances, stress, genetics or a lack of nutrients.
Luckily, there are ways to fight hair loss, and they don’t all involve expensive trips to private doctors!
I’ve found three incredible hair mask recipes that work to fight hair loss, as well as actively nourishing your hair. They’re all made with general kitchen items, so hopefully won’t break the bank!
Two of them are suitable for vegans, so go wild. I’ve chosen threeingredients that are great for your hair, so I’ll run through their benefits, as well as how to incorporate them into hair masks…
Avocado
Avocado is one of my favorite ingredients to add to most meals, and is packed with goodness. It’s full of proteins which help encourage natural hair growth, as well as oils that will soothe your scalp and prevent hair fall.

Avocados also contain Vitamin E, which boosts hair growth and promotes a healthy scalp. The oils in avocados are also great if you’re experiencing any dandruff alongside the hair fall.

Avocado Hair Mask:
·         One avocado, mashed
·         Twotablespoons of oil – use olive oil if its close to hand, or coconut oil if you’re like me and liveoff it!
·         One tablespoon of honey – keep it organic if possible
Mix the ingredients together until you get a nice, smooth paste. Apply this to your hair, taking care to massage it into your scalp, as well as combing it through the ends of your hair.
Leave for 20-30 minutes before thoroughly rinsing out. Do this twice a week and get ready to see some results!
This is a mild hair mask, so if you feel any itchiness or discomfort, wash it out immediately. This should soothe your scalp, not aggravate it!
Coconut Oil
Another ingredient that’s taken over my kitchen, as well as my beauty regime. I love this oil for its simplicity – it’s good for you and it gets the job done. Easy!

Coconut oil is great for your skin, and your scalp is no exception. It’s super hydrating and soothing, so will help your roots and prevent hair loss.
It’s also believed to stimulate hair growth, so I tend to use it on my eyelashes and eyebrows, too!
Coconut Oil Hair Mask:
·         2 tablespoons of coconut oil – raw, virgin, unrefined and organic only
·         A few drops of Vitamin E, or two capsules you have these instead
·         A few drops of any essential oil you want to add – I like rose and lavender for their scents and soothing properties
Mix everything together – you may need to melt the coconut oil in a double-burner as it’s a solid at room temperature, depending on where you live. Apply the scented oil to your hair, again massaging deep into your scalp and coating every strand.
I tend to leave this on overnight, so sleep with an old towel or t-shirt around your head to prevent oil stains on your sheets. Shampoo and condition as normal the next day and enjoy that silky, nourished feel.
I’d suggest doing this the night before you wash your hair, every time, if you can – it’ll help with the hair loss as well as looking after your hair and scalp in general.
You can use olive oil instead if you don’t have coconut oil – it’ll still work to nourish and soothe the scalp, preventing hair loss.
Eggs
I know, it sounds a bit weird! Trust me, though – eggs are great for your hair. They’re full of protein which encourages healthy hair and helps prevent hair fall and loss.

I’ve decided to mix mustard in with this, too. I promise I’m not trying to get you to make a sandwich! Strange as it sounds, mustard actively boosts our metabolism, which can result in hair growth.
Egg and Mustard Hair Mask:
·         One egg (organic and free range)
·         Threetablespoons of oil, either olive or coconut
·         One tablespoon of mustard powder – try not to breathe it in!
·         Three tablespoons of room-temperature water
Break and whisk the egg before adding in the other ingredients and stirring to form a bit of a gloopy paste. It doesn’t look appealing, but it’ll work wonders on your hair, don’t worry.
Apply the paste to your hair and leave on for around ten minutes. Rinse out thoroughly and wash hair as usual. Try this remedy around once a week.
This hair mask does contain mustard but shouldn’t irritate your scalp, so rinse off immediately if it does.
Make Your Own Mask
It can be surprisingly easy to make your own hair masks, and it’s really good fun! I love DIY beauty and hair products as you know exactly what’s in them.
I got so fed up of chemical-filled products and wanted to feel more in control of what goes onto my body.
The general rule is – if it’s good for you to eat, it’s probably good for your hair and skin.
Coconut oil makes a great base for any beauty and hair product. Start from here and add in whatever else you have around the home.
Bananas are excellent at reducing hair fall and can help with any dandruff issues that come along, too. Green tea is packed with antioxidants and helps replenish and look after your scalp, as well as stimulating hair growth. Coffee can boost circulation to the scalp, thus stimulating hair growth and strengthening hair follicles.
You see where I’m going with his? Pretty much anything in your kitchen can go into a hair mask…
Make sure you’re using these masks alongside a balanced and healthy lifestyle – it’s all well and good putting healthy food on your hair, but your body needs it inside, too.
Drink plenty of water to keep your scalp hydrated, try and get some exercise and stay positive. There are ways to deal with hair loss, and you’ll find one that suits you!
